While the Pagosa Hot Springs have long drawn people from around the world to soak in their "healing waters," many may not realize that Pagosa Springs is home to the world's deepest Hot Spring. A judge from The Guinness Book of World Records visited Pagosa Springs on August 20, 2011, to verify the measurement. The spring was measured by a hydrologist from Basin Engineering in Durango, Colorado. When the 1,002-foot-long plumb line was dropped into the “mother spring,” it didn’t hit the bottom; instead, the plumb line ran out.
