A judge from The Guinness Book of World Records visited Pagosa Springs on August 20, 2011, to verify the measurement. The spring was measured by a hydrologist from Basin Engineering in Durango, Colorado. When the 1,002-foot-long plumb line was dropped into the “mother spring,” it didn’t hit the bottom; instead, the plumb line ran out.
